Feedback areas

Feedback areas

Dear Ms. Roth,

Number 9 in the Giving Feedback Guidelines says "Two or three areas are sufficient - 15 is demoralizing and pointless.".

So, what does "areas" exactly mean? When I'll write something like "I think it would be nice, if you would talk a little bit slower, so the audience can follow you much better." is that one point/area? Or is "presentation style" the area and things like speed, acoustic, background etc. are summarized as one area?

Thanks in advance for a short feedback :-)

Best,

Chris

Dear Ms. Roth,

to add on to what Chris asked regarding the Giving Feedback Guidelines:

One point is to "speak directly to the person receiving feedback". This makes of course sense in a face-to-face context which the guidelines are refering to, however, we are now writing the feedback for you to evaluate and not the group themselves. Should we still speak directly to them as if they were reading the report (e.g. I think you spoke very clearly) or should we adress the group in general (e.g., I think the group members spoke very clearly)?

Thank you in advance and happy new year
Sarah

Dear Sarah, I wish you also a happy new year. From your alternatives I find the first option suitable ("Should we still speak directly to them as if they were reading the report (e.g. I think you spoke very clearly)"). Best regards, Simone Roth

Dear Chris, I would recommend to stay as concrete as possible; therefore with regard to your example, 'presentation style' is the generic term, but it is too general for a feedback. (Just imagine you would get the feedback, that the presentation style is in need of improvement; this would just be too unspecific.) Best regards, Simone Roth
